Phil Fox, Chair
Consultant
Having served more than 20 years with the Colorado Association of School Executives, Phil Fox is a veteran of the education field. Fox works to strengthen Colorado’s educational leadership by leading CASE lobbying efforts with the Colorado General Assembly, the Governor’s office, and Congress, and by heading the Association’s Political Action Committee. Formerly, Fox worked with the Denver Research Institute, the Education Commission of the States and was an assistant to former Colorado Governor Richard Lamm, before turning his aspirations to the political arena in order to improve public education. Fox holds a Master’s degree in psychology from the University of Oklahoma.
Stephannie J. Finley, Vice-Chair
President, Governmental Affairs Division, Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce
Stephannie Finley has an extensive background in politics and education and currently serves as President of the Governmental Affairs and Public Policy Division at the Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce, where she helps establish public policy based on the needs of the Pikes Peak region communities. Previously, she worked for the University of Colorado as Deputy Director for State and Government Relations. Through her career, Finley came to understand how effective partnerships with the community are integral to the overall improvement of education. Active in the community, Finley serves on the Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments Community Advisory Committee and the Pikes Peak Round Table.
Charles Johnson, Vice-President
Assistant Athletic Director , University of Colorado
In his second year as an Assistant Athletic Director for the University of Colorado Athletic Department, Charles Johnson is working predominantly in the area of community and former player relations. His ties to the university date back nearly two decades, when he played football with the university. Since graduating, Charles has garnered experience in a variety of fields, including business, politics and radio. While continuing his work with the Buffaloes, Charles also hosts a show entitled Barber Shop Buzz on FOX Sports Net Rocky Mountain, appears as a regular football commentator on KOA radio and actively participates in the university’s Black Alumni Association.
Raymond Ayon
Detective, Denver Police Department
Technician Raymond Ayon is a thirty-year veteran of the Denver Police Department (DPD), serving as a community liaison to the DPD Gang Bureau. Prior to working at the Gang Bureau, Mr. Ayon served as an Investigator for twelve years in the DPD’s Vice and Narcotics Bureau and five years in the department’s Intelligence Sector.
He is a popular guest in classrooms and community forums. He educates the public on gang culture and the threat it poses to families, neighborhoods, and communities. Mr. Ayon regularly reminds his audience that gangs are more violent, organized, and widespread than ever before, posing one of the greatest threats to the safety and security of all Americans. Yet, he believes that a safe environment for all students and educators should be among the top priorities of law enforcement.
Dr. Michael Bautista, Ph.D
An experienced educator, Mr. Bautista has taught and worked in administration for both k-12 and post-secondary levels of education. Motivated by his belief in the connections between academic subjects and fields of interest, he integrates general core subject matters with student passions. He intends that a purposeful aim of education is to demonstrate, for students, that each area affects and is bound to the others. Mr. Bautista, who founded a magnet school for the arts, currently serves on the board of directors for two schools, Escuela Tlatelolco and Hope Online Learning Academy Co-Op.
As a Designer and Consultant in the Midwest’s theater world, he has opened two performing arts centers and consulted on the design of many new theaters and remodeling projects. He has designed two world premiers for opera and music theater, as well as numerous plays and musicals. He has also enjoyed various independent projects in interior and 3-dimensional design.
Jennifer Sobanet
Vice President - Finance and Administration, Front Range Community College
Jennifer Sobanet is the Vice President of Finance and Administration for Front Range Community College (FRCC). She oversees college-wide budgeting efforts as well as fiscal services, institutional research, human resources, IT services, capital construction and controlled maintenance. FRCC serves approximately 25,000 students across the northern Front Range with campuses in Westminster, Brighton, Longmont and Ft. Collins. Prior to joining FRCC, Ms. Sobanet was Director of Strategic Planning for Colorado State University's Global Campus and Division of Continuing Education.The 100% online institution provides non-traditional students with the opportunity to complete a bachelor’s degree and earn a master’s degree online. Previously, Ms. Sobanet spent four years with the Colorado Community College System as the Associate Vice President for Career and Technical Education, Legislative Director and Budget Director. She has experience in both the public and private sectors and has most recently focused her career in public higher education. In the private sector, Ms. Sobanet was a management consultant throughout North and South America, a financial analyst for a public telecommunications company and the Chief Financial Officer of a global software development company.
Ms. Sobanet earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Marshall University, a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the Wharton School of Business, and a Master of Arts degree in International Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. In addition to working with the Board of Hope Online, she currently serves on the Board of the Denver Business Series and the Colorado Wharton Alumni Association.
Hope Online Board Meetings
The Hope Online Board meetings are held the 3rd Tuesday of every month. Quarterly face-to-face meetings are held in Castle Rock from 6:00-9:00pm. A conference call from 7:30-9:00am is scheduled for the remaining months. Meeting dates and times are subject to change.
